What is Botox?
What is Botox?
Botox is a well-known injectable neuromodulator that temporarily relaxes facial muscles. It softens the facial wrinkles we get from repeated muscle movement. It does so by blocking certain chemical signals from nerves that cause muscles to contract.
Why is Botox used?
Facial wrinkles
Sever underarm sweating
Cervial dystonia
Blinking you can’t control
Eyes pointing in different directions
Chronic Migraine
Overactive bladder
How does Botox work?
Botox blocks signals traveling from the nerves to the muscles, making it so they can not contract. This is what ultimately makes your wrinkles relax and soften.
How is Botox done?
The Botox procedure takes only a few minutes and you will not need any anesthesia. Your provider will use a small needle to inject Botox into specific muscles. It causes a minor discomfort.
When will I see the results?
It will take 7 to 14 days for the Botox treatment to take full effect. Also, after getting the procedure done avoid rubbing the injection site for 24 hours as to not spread the Botox to another area of your face. You may also be told by your doctor to stay upright for 4 hours after the shots and take a day off from exercising.
How long does a Botox shot last?
The effects from your Botox treatment will last 3 to 6 months. Muscle action will inevitably slowly return and the lines and wrinkles will also begin to reappear, but they will likely appear less severe because the muscles are shrinking.
What are the side effects of Botox?
Bruising
Headaches
Eyelid drooping
Crooked smile
Eye dryness
Numbness
